Rolf Verres studied medicine and psychology in Münster, Heidelberg and Stanford, USA. After graduation he became a specialist for psychotherapeutic medicine. From 1987 to 1991, he was Professor of Medical Psychology at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf and at the same time co-founder, scientific advisor and lecturer at the Institute for Music Therapy at the Hamburg College of Music and Theatre. Afterwards, he headed the Institute for Medical Psychology at the University of Heidelberg as full professor until his retirement in 2013. His research focuses on the psychological aspects of life-threatening diseases, the importance of atmosphere in institutions of professional medicine, music therapy and psychoactive substances.
