Review of the 26th Ayurveda Symposium 2024

Finally an Ayurveda symposium in Switzerland! In the country where Ayurveda has made the most progress in terms of its recognition in Europe. Kerstin and Mark Rosenberg, the initiators of the 26th International Ayurveda Symposium in Lucerne, wanted to communicate, discuss and celebrate this. And that's exactly how we experienced it: a great weekend with outstanding speakers, unique guests of honor and Ayurveda friends from all over Europe at two unique locations!

Saturday starts with a welcoming address from the Indian Ambassador H.E. Mridul Kumar and the keynotes of some of the most important representatives of Ayurveda in India: Secretary of the Ministry of AYUSH Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha and Prof. Dr. Tanuja Nesari (AIIA).
The exciting panel discussions that followed focused, among other things, on the political events surrounding the promotion and integration of Ayurveda into our healthcare system.

On Sunday, a large program with parallel lectures and workshops on the three main topics "Ayurveda psychology„, „Women's health" and "Rheumatic disorders" of this year's symposium. There was also an open Ayurveda Day with lectures on getting started with Ayurveda. The unanimous opinion of the more than 200 participants: "It inspired and enriched us all!

The organizers, above all the European Academy of Ayurveda together with the AMVS and the Heilpraktikerschule Lucerne would like to thank all the speakers and participants for their great interest and shared enthusiasm for Ayurveda. It was a great pleasure for all of us!

The first feedback we have received:

"The Ayurveda symposium was an absolute hit. I was able to learn a lot and after these two days I was totally inspired and motivated to integrate Ayurveda even more into my work."

Sandra A.

"It was very inspiring, I am very interested in the latest findings of Ayurveda, research and development..."

Christine F.

"The fact that we were also able to meet with so many Indian friends was another highlight and made many in Switzerland realize anew the international force that has been created for Ayurveda in Europe over the years..."

Franz Rutz, AMVS / TO Ayurveda CH

"I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude. It was a truly enlightening experience, and I was deeply impressed by the breadth and depth of knowledge shared during the event. The quality of the clinical papers presented was exceptionally high, and I commend the contributors for maintaining such rigorous standards.
Moreover, I was inspired by your adept management of interactions with both guests and participants, from which I learned a great deal. Thank you once again for the memorable Swiss experience."

Dr. Vasudevan Mooss, SNA

More about the key topics

Ayurveda is concerned not only with physical health, but has also, since time immemorial, addressed the fundamental questions of human life: meaning, resilience, suffering, and transformation. In this section, the symposium explores how Ayurvedic wisdom can help people understand and cope with profound life experiences such as trauma, loss, and the processes of living and dying.

Drawing on both classical Ayurvedic psychology and modern therapeutic practice, the speakers will demonstrate how Ayurveda understands the relationship between the mind, consciousness, and healing. Their perspectives highlight how this ancient wisdom can help people foster inner stability, resilience, and personal growth, even during difficult phases of life.

This part of the program invites you to reflect on what truly matters in life – and how Ayurveda can support people on their journey through loss, healing, and renewal.

→ When therapy reaches its limits, the real work begins – mindfully supporting people through loss, crisis, and change.
→ Understanding psychodynamic processes, trauma, and existential life phases in a nuanced way within the Ayurvedic context and providing therapeutic support.

Resilience and longevity are among the central themes of modern health research. This refers not only to extending lifespan, but above all to the body’s ability to regulate stress, regenerate, and maintain physical and mental stability over the long term.

For thousands of years, Ayurveda has employed Rasayana therapy, a sophisticated approach designed to enhance these rejuvenating and regenerative forces. The focus is on strengthening Ojas and Sattva Bala, those vital essences that confer resilience, adaptability, and inner stability. A prerequisite for this is an optimized metabolism at all levels—from a healthy intestinal environment to regenerative tissue metabolism (Dhatvagni). Ayurvedic resilience and longevity therapies combine a personalized nutritional regimen with the targeted use of herbs, spices, and regenerative plant substances, as well as oil massages that strengthen tissues, immune function, and the nervous system in equal measure.

This thematic focus examines the Ayurvedic doctrine of Rasayana in dialogue with current findings in resilience and longevity research—offering practical insights for therapy, prevention, and a sustainable culture of health.

→ Rethink regeneration and discover ways to embed true resilience and sustainable vitality into daily life.
→ Classify Rasayana concepts based on evidence and apply them specifically to promote regeneration, adaptation, and long-term stability.

Chronic inflammation is now considered a key pathogenic factor in numerous complex clinical conditions—ranging from autoimmune diseases and inflammatory bowel diseases to metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases, as well as neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. Ayurvedic medicine also describes these pathological processes in detail within the context of constitutional imbalances of the doshas, ama, srotorodha, and disturbed dhatvagni.

The symposium focuses on clinical experiences from Ayurvedic practice in dialogue with current findings in modern inflammatory and systemic medicine, and invites professional exchange on integrative therapeutic approaches to the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. During various panel discussions at the symposium, diagnostic differentiations as well as therapeutic approaches—including dietary interventions, phytotherapeutic concepts, and targeted Panchakarma therapies—will be discussed.

→ Recognizing the hidden causes of chronic inflammation and initiating healing processes at a deeper level.
→ Clinically apply the pathogenetic relationships between Ama, Srotorodha, and Dhatvagni in relation to chronic inflammatory diseases.

Thyroid, cortisol, estrogen, insulin—our endocrine system is more than just numbers on a lab report. It reflects our inner balance and our ability to adapt, yet it is highly complex and dynamic. With the doshas and agni, Ayurveda offers a clear, holistic framework for understanding hormonal imbalances and addressing them effectively.

This focus area blends traditional Ayurvedic insights with modern endocrinological concepts. We demonstrate how hormones influence the doshas, Agni, and the psyche, and what practical implications this has for nutritional therapy, women’s health, and stress management. In doing so, we explore fascinating questions: How do the thyroid and Pitta interact? Why does adrenal exhaustion often occur with Vata dominance? And how can the targeted strengthening of Agni stabilize the entire hormonal metabolism? The answers discussed during the symposium offer profound insights for all who wish not only to diagnose hormonal interrelationships but also to understand them holistically and treat them effectively.

→ Understanding the delicate interplay between hormones, metabolism, and the mind—and bringing them into balance.

→ Analyze endocrine imbalances in the interplay between doshas, agni, and the psyche, and address them with a differentiated therapeutic approach.
