For many people, children are an essential part of life planning. Yet one in six couples remains childless. Infertility can be caused by a variety of different factors in both the female and male reproductive organs. In addition, lifestyle, diet, environmental factors (pollutants and toxins), hormonal imbalance and stress have a direct impact on fertility and health, as well as the quality of the egg and sperm. However, the causes of infertility and an unfulfilled desire to have children are sometimes difficult to understand.

The health status of man & woman
In women, special attention should be paid to the menstrual cycle, because the cycle provides information about their current state of health. Irregularities, symptoms, PMS and other conditions can already give an indication of hormonal imbalances, the pelvic environment and a less than optimal state of health of the reproductive system.

Hormonal imbalance, less than optimal reproductive system health, and the pelvic environment can also provide information about a man's current health status.

Ojas, the life force, is reflected in the quality of the egg in women and in the sperm in men. But not only the optimal quality of Ojas is important for fertility. The interaction and quality of Rasa Dhatu (the first body tissue, "the sap of life", Prana (the life energy), Manas (the mind) and Ojas play a significant role.

The current state of health of woman and man is therefore crucial for fertility and this is exactly where the focus in Ayurveda lies: adjustment of diet, lifestyle & self-care to bring body & mind into balance.

The fertility massage
One of the unique aspects of Ayurveda is the therapeutic use of oil. The Abhyanga is one of the surest ways to nourish (brmhana), build up, balance the body & mind and balance the hormones - and most importantly, keep them balanced.

Applying oil on the body gives us the feeling of stability, warmth and well-being. The skin is our largest organ. Through the skin we perceive sensory impressions through touch, because our skin is crisscrossed with nerve pathways. Covering our skin with warm oil calms the nervous system and makes it less "alert" and hypersensitive. When the nervous system is less challenged, it is less likely to release stress hormones and our endocrine system can gradually return to a healthy balance. This in turn leads to the resolution of various symptoms & conditions that have their cause in a hormonal imbalance. Our mind becomes calm, Prana can flow, Vata Dosha is calmed and we are nourished. The duality of brmhana (nourish) and langhana (reduce) existing within the body is thus brought into balance.

We know that Abhyanga can stimulate circulation and lymph flow. It has a "discharging" (detoxifying) effect and relieves tension, stagnation, obstruction, congestion and blockages.

In fertility massage, we now integrate other elements and focus on those areas of the body that are particularly important, such as the abdominal and pelvic areas, as well as the back:

Especially in the pelvic area, it is about releasing stagnation and congestion, stimulating blood circulation and balancing the environment in the uterus. All reproductive organs are located in the area of the 2nd chakra, where the water element predominates. Therefore, this area needs regular regeneration and must be well nourished and moistened. For example, if there is dryness in the pelvic area, it can affect menstruation (low menstrual flow to the absence of menstruation) and fertility.

On the lower abdomen - from the navel down - there are a number of important marma points that are stimulated during the massage. Likewise on the lower back in the area of Vata Sthana, the seat of Apana Vata, the downward and outward force. According to Caraka, there is no female ailment in which Apana Vata is not involved.

Thus, the regular massage can make a valuable contribution to the restoration of physical and hormonal balance. For women, the timing of the massage (adapted to the menstrual cycle) is particularly important to compensate for any irregularities and other symptoms related to the cycle. At the same time we strengthen the confidence in oneself and one's own body and create well-being on the emontional, psychomental and soul level.
