Back pain and joints pain is a very common condition in clinical practice. Everyone experiences back pain as a symptom at least once in their life. With our changing and sedentary lifestyle and diet, there is constant aggravation of Vata dosha and it occurs even more in people who do not exercise. Back pain is observed in many conditions like Sandhigata Vata (Arthritis), Spondylosis and Spondylitis, Aamavata etc. We will see causes of back and joint pain in short. The current lecture will focus on its Ayurvedic perspective i.e. Sandhigata Vata.
Sandhi means Joint and Gata Vata means Vata entering. The concept of Joint is used in Ayurveda very broadly. So, many health conditions besides common Arthritis can come under this umbrella. The vitiation of Vata has different causes from food to the daily routine. In the lecture we will see the treatment of Sandhigata Vata i.e. Back and Joints Pain by oral medicines and Snehana-Svedana. In the treatment we will first see principles and then different herbs with their actions. We will also learn about some herbal combinations used. The focus is kept on Snehana – Svedana as a different Snehana and Svedana method is used than the one commonly preferred before Panchakarma procedures.
The lecture will end with some diet and lifestyle advices for everyone to follow so as to avoid aggravation of Vata and in turn avoid back and joints Pain.
