Diagnosis and understanding of the irritable bowel against the background of Ayurvedic principles

Year: 2019

How can we approach the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome in an Ayurvedic way?

Irritable bowel syndrome has become a widespread disease. Approx. every 6th German suffers from chronic, unspecific gastronintestinal complaints such as abdominal pain, indisposition, flatulence, constipation and / or diarrhoea, which cannot be attributed to any "pathological changes in the gastrointestinal tract". Irritable bowel syndrome is a diagnosis of exclusion. The cause has not yet been clarified and so it is often classified as a psychosomatic illness.
Symptoms as well as triggers are very individual. Various approaches from nutritional counselling, psychotherapy, stress management, exercise and relaxation methods have proven to be positive in treatment, but integration into conventional medicine has so far been insufficiently successful. The patients' level of suffering, on the other hand, is high, which is why many are looking for alternative or complementary therapies.
Ayurveda has promising and successful strategies for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome - a good understanding of the very diverse clinical picture is important for the development of a meaningful therapy concept.
So how can we approach the irritable bowel syndrome in an Ayurvedic way?
The aim of the lecture is to show the role of the doshas, of Agni and Kostha in relation to the symptomatology of irritable bowel syndrome and to elaborate on practical examples from practice. On the basis of this understanding, even simple measures can have a great effect.
