A humane medicine needs a conception of man that does justice to the different dimensions
of man and is not reductionistically oriented. On the other hand, medicine should not be
bound by ideology, but should be open in order to do justice to each individual human
being.
Ayurveda and Yoga are equally based on concepts and models of classical Indian philosophy
and unfolds perspectives for a holistic form of therapy that includes the spiritual dimension.
In this context, the self plays a significant role as a resource of health, which itself cannot
become ill. The contact to the self, the experience of the self is able to unfold therapeutically
healing effects.

Logotherapy and existential analysis, founded by Viktor Frankl, uses the example of modern
man to show how existential frustration can lead to psychological stress and illness. Finding
the meaning of life for oneself in one's own life unfolds a strong psychological dynamic that
makes pathological symptoms disappear.
Eastern and Western approaches to mental health and fulfillment of life can constructively
meet and cross-fertilize each other in these two disciplines. We will also shed light on
concrete therapeutic approaches and methods of communication in order to arrive at a
fruitful synthesis of Ayurveda and existential analysis.
