
Prof. Dr. med. Christian S. Kessler, MA (Indology), MSc (Ayurvedic Medicine), is Professor for Integrative Healthcare and Prevention (INAP) at the University of Augsburg and one of Europe’s leading academic experts in Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine. As a physician specialized in internal medicine, nature-based medicine, and psychotherapy, he combines clinical expertise with scientific experience in evidence-based Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM).
His work focuses on the integration of TCIM and preventive medicine into contemporary healthcare systems, with particular emphasis on lifestyle medicine, nutrition, resilience, and integrative patient-centred care.
Prof. Kessler studied Medicine, Indology, and Ayurvedic Medicine. He completed his training in Ayurvedic Medicine at the European Academy of Ayurveda (REAA), at that time academically validated by Middlesex University London. He worked scientifically at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and played a key role in the development of one of Germany’s best-known integrative TCIM departments at Immanuel Hospital Berlin, where Ayurveda was successfully integrated into clinical patient care and research. He has recently been appointed to the newly established Chair for Integrative Healthcare and Prevention at the University of Augsburg.
He is currently Chairman of the German Medical Society for Ayurveda Medicine (DÄGAM e.V.), board member of ADAVED e.V., active within the German Ayurveda Foundation, and also involved in the recently founded Alliance for Integrative Medicine and Health (AIM e.V.) in Germany.
At the Ayurveda Symposium 2026, Prof. Kessler will deliver a keynote lecture on “Ayurveda – Learning from the Indian Science of Life”, highlighting Ayurveda as a globally relevant component of integrative healthcare and prevention.
