Ayurveda for Children: Three Significant Steps towards Health & Healing
Chikitsa (treatment) classifications in Ayurveda are divided into two types: prevention and management of imbalances. The Ayurvedic specialisation branch bala chikitsa thus comprises all preventative as well as therapeutic approaches and interventions for people who are in the developmental or kapha phase of life. Ideally, appropriate and timely prevention measures taken during childhood help to avoid, or at least minimise the impact of, health issues later in adult life. This talk will focus on three specific measures in the area of communication that can – if viewed Ayurvedically or holistically – achieve both preventative as well as healing effects. The primary concern here are particular aspects of communication in the context of interacting with children and adolescents. However, these measures are just as valid and applicable when dealing with child-like parts in adults, since on psycho-emotional levels bala chikitsa also entails therapeutic work with the inner child.
